PERSONALIZED LEARNING
To ensure a high -quality learning experience, registration is limited to a maximum of 25 students.
LANGUAGE CLASSES
Students will be pre -evaluated to determine their proficiency and assigned an appropriate intensive Spanish language class. Language classes are taught by experienced, bilingual Se Habla… La Paz instructors using legal vocabulary and terms of art.
An entry -level curriculum with English spoken as needed. Prerequisite: one semester of College Spanish or the equivalent and ongoing exposure to Spanish in the work place.
For those with knowledge primarily of present tense, who are not “fluent” beyond simple phrases and ideas, the Advanced Beginner Class will enhance fluency and vocabulary, and add new verb tenses. Advanced Beginner Class contains mixture of English and Spanish as needed.
Tailored to more advanced proficiency, the Intermediate Class includes specialized vocabulary and conversation relevant to interaction with Spanish -speaking clients, with more advanced Spanish.
The Advanced Class focuses on advanced grammar, specialized idiomatic legal phrases and terms of art.
LEGAL CLASSES are taught by bilingual attorneys who are or have practiced Family Law in Mexico. Their 2 -hour presentations will be in English only for the beginning to advanced beginner students and Spanish only for the intermediate to advanced students. All students will receive a copy of the power point presentations in English only.
CASE -BASED SCRIPTED and UNIQUE MATERIALS
Hypothetical legal cases for all language levels involve clients in their attorney’s offices. Topics include, but not limited to domestic relations, including custody, child support and property distribution in divorce, domestic violence, immigration and juvenile justice. All students receive the same contextual materials, to insure equal exposure to the same information, regardless of level of language expertise. Role-playing and interactive scripts will enhance participants’ learning.
VOCABULARY
A vocabulary list provides extensive practice in pronunciation and introduces concepts and formats that may not exist in both legal systems.
